SpeedWatch is a great
community policing program in where you, the citizen, get to use
an actual police radar to monitor speed violations in your
neighborhood! With the use of a battery powered hand radar unit,
citizens with speeding concerns can help the police monitor
speed violations.
Volunteers are given the radar unit, along with a record log.
When a violator is observed, a description of the vehicle, plate
number, and time of offense are recorded. The DeForest Police
Department then issues a warning letter to the vehicle’s
registered owner advising of the violation. Frequently, the
violator may be the young driver of the family vehicle and so
parents are informed and can take any appropriate action.
If you are interested in signing up for SpeedWatch!, please
contact Lieutenant Daniel Furseth via e-mail or at 846-6655 to
make an appointment to receive the unit and a quick training
lesson. |
