Anonymous Tip Line Number Changed The phone number for the DeForest Police Department Tip Line has been changed to 846-6699. This number goes directly into a voicemail box and is not monitored with caller-ID for complete anonymity. Tips can be left 24/7 and you will not speak to an officer. Callers are encouraged to leave contact information for further follow up, but callers can remain completely anonymous if they choose. All caller information is completely confidential. Tips resulting in arrests may result in cash rewards. Tips can also be left via e-mail at police@vi.deforest.wi.us A safe community requires everyone’s help. If you see or suspect criminal activity, please report it. It is everyone’s job to make our community the safest that it can be! Daniel Furseth, Chief Robert Henze DeForest Police Officers Shave Heads for Childhood Cancer Research On March 17th, several members of the DeForest Police Department have joined forces with the DeForest Fire/EMS Department to shave their heads to help support the St. Baldricks Foundation in raising money to support childhood cancer research. We set a goal of $5000 to raise. Not only did we reach that goal, we blew it out of the water!! Our latest figures are over $22,000!!! Donations are still being accepted. http://www.stbaldricks.org/events/event_info.html?EventID=118 Business Security Surveys to begin Starting in April, officers of the DeForest Police Department will be personally contacting all businesses in the Village of DeForest to update our business security information. This information will allow officers to contact businesses after hours with problems such as alarms, open doors, or other irregularities. This information will also assist the DeForest Fire Department. In addition, we will be establishing an e-mail contact list to quickly disseminate information that may be pertinent to that type of business such as persons passing stolen checks to retail stores, or thefts from certain types of manufacturing businesses. Please take the time to fill out the survey and return to the DeForest Police Department. CRIME BULLETIN TO BEGIN If you would like a periodical e-mail from the DeForest Police Department on current investigations, crimes in progress, crime prevention tips, and general department news, please send an e-mail to Lt. Daniel Furseth requesting to be added to the group. You will receive a periodical newsletter via e-mail . Include your name and address. Your name and e-mail will not be shared with anyone and will remain private. Volunteers Wanted The DeForest Police Department is looking for dedicated volunteers to help with school crossings in selected areas of the Village. Ideally, we are looking for persons who can help most days before and after school. We are also looking for volunteers who can fill in part time to back up our current crossing guards when needed. ORDIANCE REMINDERS Village Ordinance Code # 7.03(1) prohibits grass clippings from being placed in village streets. Grass clippings shall not be mowed or blown into the street. Any grass mowed into the street has the potential to wash down the streets into the storm sewers. Grass in the street prevents the street sweeper from effectively cleaning streets. These clippings also clog storm sewers, preventing adequate removal of storm water in flood situations. In addition, DeForest storm water empties into the Yahara River which feeds the Madison Lakes. DeForest storm water management strives to help protect the Madison area lakes and streams by enforcing water quality ordinances. Anyone found placing grass clippings in the street can be fined between $100 to $500. Grass clippings are rich in nitrogen an important fertilizing agent, fertilize your lawn by leaving clippings on your lawn. Illegal Signs With summer, come garage and yard sales, and the posting of garage sale signs on traffic posts. Village Ordinance Code #3.03(3) prohibits the posting of any non-official sign to any traffic sign or post. Such signs shall be removed by the village and the owner may be fined. Placement of snow in village streets It is illegal to blow or shovel snow back onto village streets. Residents are asked to move snow onto lawns or setback. Latest News
